All Saints Summer Camp
Orthodox Church in America

A Typical Day

Each morning the campers wake up at 7 am, followed by morning prayers and breakfast.  The camp is then divided into older and younger groups for session breakouts with the priest. They then have organized outside games and practice for their skit. One of All Saints Summer Camp traditions is an end of camp group skit. Teams, which are formed the first night, put together a skit which displays what they learned from the lessons that week. Lunch is served at 12pm with the option of a salad at every meal. After lunch, the campers are encourged to spend 30 minutes in quite time.

They have another afternoon session and freetime is given from 2 pm- 5pm.  At this time campers have the opportunity to fish, swim, play gaga ball, basketball, arts and crafts, blob, soccer and more. The snack shop is opened from 3:30pm-4pm. Campers can purchased candy and soda.

5:30pm we begin wrapping up our day with Vespers each night, supper and a themed evening activity. Campers are allowed some time in their cabin where the counselors answer questions or lead a discussion on contempory issues with the older group and the younger aged are left to rest.

Prayer and Fasting

At All Saints Summer Camp prayer is an important part of our schedule. Every morning our campers begin with morning prayers where they hear the daily epistle and gospel and a homily given by one of our priest. In the evening, they come together again for vespers. The campers  who are interested may sing in the choir, read, and boys are encourged to serve in the altar.

In addition to these services, the sacrament of confession is offered Wednesday night for the campers who need to prepare for the Divine Liturgy Thursday morning. The priest encourage the kids to watch the proskomedia service the morning of liturgy. We also gather Thursday night to pray and sing the Akathist of Thanksgiving.

As an Orthodox Christian camp, we adhere to the tenets of the faith, and therefore, on prescribed days we follow the fast of the Church in a very simple and humble attempt. Our fasting practice at All Saints is to refrain from meats on fasting days. While we recognize that families follow different fasting practices, here at All Saints Summer Camp we feel this is a reasonable expectation of all campers and staff to aid us in our spiritual growth. We encourage you as parents to speak with your children about fasting while they are at camp.
